As a general guide use your common sense!
-
Packing your items for a move overseas is little different to moving within
the UK and some helpful points are listed here: -
Start packing and planning as early as possible. Use the container details
to decide where you want your items to be safely stowed. -
Do not ship important documentation such as passports, birth certificates,
marriage licences, medicals records, airline tickets or visas. -
Do not ship cash, coins, furs or jewellery.
-
Do not leave anything to pack on the day of the container collection.
-
Unless your goods are ‘Professionally Packed’ (i.e. you have paid a
company to do it) the Insurance Company will exclude breakage. -
Use paper (newspaper print will stain)/bubble wrap/foam.
-
Plates - Wrap individually and stack on their sides.
-
Glasses - Wrap individually and pack standing up.
-
Glass Frames/Mirrors - Wrap individually and provide extra security with
cardboard or a picture carton. -
Fragile Items - Wrap individually and use extra paper etc. to fill any gaps in
the box. -
Furniture - Protect with bubble wrap to avoid scratches, dents etc.
(including any table/chair legs). -
Fax Machines/ Printers - Remove ink cartridges.
-
Washing Machines/Dish washers - Disconnect and drain the hoses.
-
Garden Hoses - Drain.
-
Always tape the boxes together for extra strength.
-
